Rim Nordic Ski Area is the only cross-country ski area in Southern California, but don’t let that discourage you! The terrain is well kept and there are always helpful guides around to answer any questions you may have.

There are a variety of trails to choose from, so you can find one that’s perfect for your skill level. Beginner trails are relatively flat and easy to follow, while more advanced trails may have some hills and more challenging terrain. The difficulty is distinguished by color on the Rim Nordic Ski Area Map. Green are ‘Easier’ trails, blue are ‘More Difficult’, and black are ‘Most Difficult’.

What to Bring Cross Country Skiing

Be sure to dress warmly! Even if it’s sunny out, the temperature can drop quickly in the mountains. Layering is always a good idea. you’ll want to have a base layer (something that wicks away sweat), a middle layer (for insulation), and a waterproof outer layer.

Other important items to bring include sunscreen, sunglasses, water, snacks, and a first-aid kit. And of course, don’t forget your cross-country skis!
