Family-Friendly Hiking, Biking and Horseback Riding Trails in Big Bear

Big Bear hosts miles and miles of scenic hiking trails. There are too many to list, but here are some of our favorite hikes for the whole family:

Bear Lake Woodland Trail

Bear Lake Woodland Trail is an easy 1.5-mile loop that is perfect for the whole family. Enjoy scenic views as you learn about the local flora and fauna from the informational markers guiding you throughout the trail.

Champion Lodgepole Pine Trail

Champion Lodgepole Pine Trail is just over a half-mile long and will lead you to one of the tallest trees in all of Big Bear. At 110 feet tall, 6 feet wide, and more than 440 years old, this legendary tree is quite an impressive sight to see.

Castle Rock Trail

The moderately challenging, 2.7-mile out and back Castle Rock Trail will reward your efforts with one of the best panoramic views of the Big Bear Lake Valley.

Bristlecone Road

Bristlecone Road is perfect for all skill levels. Open for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, this 1.8-mile scenic loop is teaming with California wildlife. Keep your eyes open for a Bald Eagle sighting!

Mine for Gold with Local Favorite Gold Rush Mining Adventures

No stay in Big Bear is complete without a stop at Gold Rush Mining Adventures. This fun and interactive attraction will have the whole family shouting “Eureka!” Paying tribute to the area’s rich gold mining history, enjoy activities like mining for treasures, panning for gold, and cracking open geodes. Any precious loot discovered is yours to keep!

Go for a Family Bike Ride on the Alpine Pedal Path

The Alpine Pedal Path is a unique and all-ages-friendly path on the north shore. The path is 2.5 miles and is mostly asphalt, offering an ideal path for bikes, scooters, rollerblades, and strollers! Enjoy meandering through trees and along the water as you breathe in the fresh mountain air, and soak in the scenery.

Slip ‘N Slide on the Water Slide at Magic Mountain Recreation Area

Take a ride down the Alpine water slide where you can enjoy twisting and turning through refreshing, cool water, before making a big splash into the heated pool. Adrenaline seekers can also enjoy other fun attractions at the Magic Mountain Recreation Area – Soaring Eagle, Mineshaft Coaster, go-karts, and the Alpine Slide

Enjoy a Drone Light Show Over Beautiful Big Bear Lake

In lieu of fireworks this year, Visit Big Bear is hosting a new drone light show on May 29. The show is free to all spectators, with the north and south shore being recommended as the best viewing spots. The show is set to begin at sundown (between 8pm & 9pm). We recommend checking local listings for updates.
